About this course
Ready to take your wheel-throwing skills to the next level? Our Intermediate Wheel Class is designed for potters who already have experience working on the pottery wheel and are comfortable with the fundamentals of throwing. This class focuses on building confidence, improving technique, and developing greater control at the wheel. With guidance from our experienced instructors, you'll have the opportunity to refine your forms, work with larger amounts of clay, explore more challenging shapes, and troubleshoot common throwing issues. Rather than starting with the basics, each class will allow you to build on the skills you already have while receiving personalized instruction and feedback. Whether you're looking to strengthen your throwing technique, expand your repertoire, or simply become more independent at the wheel, this class provides a supportive environment to continue developing your pottery practice. Things to Know for Class: Students should have previous wheel-throwing experience and be comfortable with the basics of centering, opening, pulling walls, and creating a basic form. This class is not intended for complete beginners. All students will be provided with an apron; however, clay can splatter off the wheel and may get on your clothes. Please come dressed in comfortable clothing that can be wiped with water or easily washed. Loose-fitting clothing is recommended, as your legs will need to hug the pottery wheel. Trimming nails is highly recommended! Throughout the 8-week class, you can expect to make several pieces while continuing to develop your wheel-throwing skills. After creating your pieces, you will learn how to trim and glaze your work to create a finished product. A wide selection of glazes will be available for you to choose from. Experienced and trained staff only will handle and fire your ceramic work. However, due to the nature of ceramics, there is always a risk of technical failure during the firing process. Although this is not the usual outcome, please understand that we cannot be held responsible for pieces that do not make it through the firing process. No class credits or refunds will be issued for pieces lost or damaged during firing. Classes begin promptly at the scheduled time. The instructor will begin each class with demonstrations and an overview of the techniques being covered before students begin working independently. Because this is an intermediate-level class, demonstrations will focus on building upon existing skills rather than teaching the fundamentals of wheel throwing. Late students may miss important demonstrations and will not be able to receive an additional demonstration.
