About this course

Whether you’ve always wanted to try the pottery wheel or are looking for a fun new creative outlet, this beginner-friendly class is the perfect place to start! Over the course of eight weeks, our experienced instructors will guide you step-by-step through the fundamentals of wheel throwing. You’ll learn essential techniques including centering clay, opening, pulling walls, shaping forms, trimming, and glazing your handmade pottery. No prior experience is necessary. Our supportive, welcoming environment allows you to learn at your own pace while building confidence and developing new skills. By the end of the session, you’ll have created several functional and decorative pieces to enjoy for years to come. Come get your hands dirty, discover the relaxing art of clay, and experience the satisfaction of creating something truly unique from start to finish! ⸻ Things to Know Before Class * An apron will be provided for each student. While pottery is lots of fun, it can also be a little messy! Clay and water may splash off the wheel, so please wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Loose-fitting clothing is recommended, as your legs will need to comfortably hug the pottery wheel while throwing. •Throughout the eight-week session, you can expect to create several pottery pieces. After learning to throw on the wheel, you’ll trim, refine, and glaze your work using our wide selection of beautiful glaze colors. Watching your pieces transform from wet clay into finished ceramics is one of the most rewarding parts of the process! •All ceramic work will be handled and fired by our trained studio staff. While we take every precaution to ensure successful firings, ceramics is an unpredictable art form, and occasional breakage or kiln-related issues can occur. Although uncommon, we cannot guarantee that every piece will survive the firing process. No class credits or refunds will be issued for pieces lost due to normal ceramic firing risks. •Classes begin promptly at the scheduled start time. During the first 15 minutes of each class, the instructor will provide the day’s demonstration and introduce new techniques. Because the entire class begins together, instructors are unable to repeat demonstrations for students who arrive late. We encourage you to arrive a few minutes early so you don’t miss any instruction.
